Pada tanggal 6 Mei 1987 Bpk.Dra.I.B.Te theel dan Bpk. Silvester Reyaan hadir di rumah Bpk.Lucianus, BA (Katekese Pareki Katedral), Jln. Bukit Barisan No.5 Dek V Jayapura menyampaikan tawaran dari KAKANWILDEPDIKBUD Prepinai Irian Jaya kepada Yayasan Pendidikan dan Persekolahan Katolik (YPPK) supaya mendirikan sebuah SMP Katolik di daerah Dek V Jayapura.

7 Mei 1987 Bpk. Lucianus, BA (berhubung Paster Paroki tidak berada di tempat) ne- lanjutkan tawaran tersebut kepada Sekai Pendidikan Dewan Paroki Kate- dral Dek V dan guru-guru Sekolah Lanjutan yang berdomisili di wilayah Paroki Katedral.

8 Mei 1987 Bpk J.A.Repi dan Ibu Letsein (sekai pendidikan) mengadakan pertemuan kilat dengan guru-guru Katolik di Pastoran Katolik Katedral dok V. Dengan memperhatikan saran dan usul yang ada dapat ditarik kesimpulan.
1. Sepakat membuka sekolah dengan nama SMP KRISTUS RAJA JAYAPURA
2. Sebagai tempat belajar meminjam Gedung SD Kristus Raja Dek V Jayapura dengan alamat Jln. Seasiu No. 1 Dok V Bawah Jayapura.
3. Supaya dibentuk tim/Panitia untuk menangani SMP yang baru. Pembentukan Tim terdiri atas:
a. Unsur Dewan Paroki, sebagai Koordinater Bpk.J.A.Rapi dengan anggota Ibu Letasin, dan Bpk.Gusta Simon.
b. Tim operasional, sebagai Koordinater Bpk.Lucianus, BA dengan anggota: Bpk.A.M.Suharjiman, BA, Bpk. R.Hardiyene, BA, Bpk.Kanti Radyo, BA, Bpk.J.Sakiman, BA, Bpk.J.V.Mujene, Bpk.J.Surachman, Bpk.E.Youyanan, Ibu Th.W.Suwende dan Paster Paroki.
c. Mengadakan Pembagian tugas Seksi Pendidikan supaya segera melaporkan kepada Dewan Paroki dan sekaligus membuat pengumuman tentang penerimaan siswa baru. Bpk.D.Renyaan den Bpk.St.Letsein supaya memberikan informasi kepada Bapa Uskup.

6 Juni 1987 Rapat di Pastoran Katedral Dok V yang dipimpin oleh Bpk. J.A. Repi Hadir dalan Rapat: Utusan Dewan Paroki, Panitia, guru-guru, Utusan YPPK, dan Delegatus Pendidikan. Dalas Rapat ini pihak YPPK mengecek sejauh mana umat katolik berperan Dari Delegatus Pendidikan menyampaikan bahwa secara hirarkia menolak tawaran dari KAKANWILDEPDIKBUD dengan alasan bahwa Keuskupan tidak akan membuka sekolah baru, mengingat: keuangan, tanah, gedung, tenaga pendidikan, perumahan guru, dll, yang semuanya belum memenuhi syarat untuk diakreditasi. Jawaban Bpk.J.A.Repiadiah sebagai berikut: kami mendirikan SMP ini adalah atas kesadaran umat akan hidup menggereja khususnya para guru Katolik.
Selanjutnya Bpk.J.B.Tetheel mengatakan pada prinsipnya secara pribadi sangat setuju SMP ini didirikan, namun sebagai Ketua Yayasan wajib bicara dulu dengan bapa uskup.

29 Juni 1987 Rapat Panitia yang dipimpin oleh Bpk. Lucianus,M di SD YPPK Kristus Raja Dok V Jayapura, Sebagai kesepatan bersama Dra.I.B. Suwarne di tunjuk sebagai Pejabat Kepala Sekolah.

10 Juli 1987 Panitia menyerahkan pelaksanaan Pendaftaran Siswa baru kepada Kepala Sekolah sekaligus diserahi tugas untuk menyusun Program kerja dan mengatur penempatan tenaga guru yang ada.

17 Juli 1987 Secara de fakte kegiatan belajar telah berjalan dengan formasi:
Siwa berjumlah: 48 siswa dan Guru berjumlah 14 orang.

11. Ny. Rees Talaubun : Bahasa Indonesia
12. Ny. J. Salakay : Pendidikan Jasmani
13. Drs. Calvin Kubis : Kesenian
14. Na. Albertin Bandase : Ketrampilan/PKK
15. Drs. P. Youyanan : Kepala Tata Usaha.

29 Nopember 87 Mendapat Restu dari Bapa Uskup mengenai Pendirian dan kelanjutan operasional SMP Katolik Dengan adanya restu ini maka kami mengubah nama Sekolah: SMP Kristus Raja Jayapura menjadi SMP YPPK Kristus Raja Jayapura.
NSS: 20.4.25.10.02.011.

2 September 88 mendapat ijin penggunaan Nama Sekolah dan Nomor Stastistik Sekolah dan Nomor dari Kepala Kantor Depdikbud Kabupaten Jayapura. Nama Sekolah: SMP Kristus Raja Jayapura NSS: 20.4.25.10.02.011.

19 Desember 1988 Mendapat Status sebagai Tanda Tercatat dari Departemen Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Direktorat Jendral Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah, Direktur Sekolah Swasta, dengan Nomer Data Sekolah (NDS): Y.10022004

30 Mei 1989 Mendapat SK KANWILDEPDIKBUD Provinsi Irian Jaya No. 873/1 18 g/R6/89 tentang Pendirian SMP YPPK Kristus Raja Jayapura.

Demikianlah sejarah singkat SMP YPPK Kristus Raja Jayapura kami susun untuk dapat digunakan seperlunya oleh badah atau yang bersangkutan.
